|Accessible NYC Coalition|
Accessible NYC is an initiative to promote New York City as the number one destination for travelers with disabilities in the United States. It is a coalition of public and private partners dedicated to serving the disability community. This initiative is for businesses that want to serve travelers with disabilities on the service level expected by the disability community, going beyond the requirements of the ADA.
For those of us who love New York City this is our opportunity to bring people with disabilities to the greatest destination in the United States to enjoy our great city.
Accessible NYC seeks to join 4 groups of partners to achieve our goals, namely public agencies & their constituencies, non-profits who serve the disability community, the disability community itself, and the businesses and providers who serve the disability community.
From the public agencies we are seeking leadership, funding, and the opportunity to educate the general public about the civil rights issues of the disabled. As a group people with disabilities are more shut out of enjoying our beautiful city than any other minority group. They are avoided as customers by businesses, and given second citizen treatment in employment and transportation.
From the non-profits who serve the disability community we are seeking full engagement in broadcasting this initiative to their clients, members, and supporters.
From the disability community we are seeking to bring them by the thousands to New York City to enjoy and return again and again.
From the businesses and service providers to the disability community we are seeking a commitment to offer top quality service to travelers with disabilities. And to be inspected by experts from the disability community to ensure that the highest standards of accessibility are met.
